Meeting old friends

These are Claudia and me. For all who do not know: Claudia is my best friend from school, she has been living in the states since 2007 and moved to Charlotte half a year ago. Although work and distance reduce the amount of contacts, the intensity of our friendship has been unchanged for a decade.
I arrived in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday (23.04.2008), only a short wrap-up of what I have been doing since I left my mum's place: visiting grandma, finding my roots and source of energy in the marsh of Rantrum (northern Germany), staying with friends in Hamburg and inhaling some air and party in the city I love.
The flight was unspectacular: As Joschka accompanied me to the airport, he took care so I wouldn't come late... Starting in Hamburg's clear blue sky, I had a good view on the city as well as on northern Germany, I could tell the "Nord-Ostsee-Kanal" (I took me a couple of years to tell that channel from the Eider river ;-) and believe, that I saw Fehmarn. Never did I have such a clear view taking of from Hamburg. Later the day I had the chance to see Greenland's ice, a wonderfull view!
Whilst filling out the customs form I struggled and finally declared "Schwarzbrot, Nutella, Gummibärchen and Maultaschen"... no one questioned the goods and so they arrived in Claudias appartment.
The pictures were taken in Virginia Beach, 3hrs from Charlotte, we passed the beach on our way to Washington DC. We, that is Claudia, Tobi (my ex-room-mate) and Tinchen (university colleague and friend to Claudia and Tobi) and me. The water in VB was icy cold, but still we entered!

Find your roots before you go.

I left Hamburg. The first step to travelling is done.

After having a great good-bye-party on Saturday I needed a big breakfast.
Location was the "La Paz" which is just in front of my appartment, my second home!
Hamburg did all it's best, blue sky, sun shining a lot of friends and familiy around, still I felt really bad.

I do not know which was the worst, few hours of sleep, a couple of beers and caipirinhas on the party the night before, or the feeling of leaving known places and very good friends behind.

Monday was the day to pack all my belongings in a van, thanks to all helpful hands we made it in 3 hrs... unpacking back at my mum's place and storing it away took me 3 days... Right now I am with my mum, sister, brother and cat. Getting in touch with the place were I grew up, before leaving into the wild world! After visiting my grandma I will be back in Hamburg on Friday 18th of April.
